MASSAGE

Swedish

Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Hot Stone

Warmed stones are placed on certain areas of the body, such as acupressure points. The stones are used as massage tools. Along with other massage techniques, hot stones can be quite soothing and relaxing as they transmit heat deep into the body.

Pregnancy

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling).

*Please note that I require a letter form your midwife to confirm they are happy for you to have the treatment.

After care:

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours, as massage is a detoxifying treatment

  • Drink plenty of water to assist in the elimination of toxins from the body

  • Eat a light diet to assist the detoxification and healing process

  • Get plenty of rest. You may feel tired after treatment

  • Gentle exercise – postural exercises can help with muscle tension as well as exercises that will assist with mobility. Yoga is a suitable and gentle option.
